Today we are a close relative of the giraffe
 As we have seen, the giraffe belonged to the Girrafa genus of the Giraffidae family. Their scientific name is Okapi johnstoni. And they have the same species.

 * Spread:

Like giraffes, they are confined to Africa and are found in the forests of the Congo within Central Africa. They usually like to live in dense forests near water.

Physical features:

When it comes to physical features, their height can be up to 8 feet and weigh up to 248 kg. Their body is red and brown.  They are said to be close to giraffes, but they have zebra-like white stripes on the hindquarters and on both legs (hence they are also called forest zebra) which helps them to hide in forests. Their ankles are white with deep scars. Like a male giraffe, it has two horns covered in the skin called ossicones.
The length of the tongue can be between 12 and 14 inches and can be black or dark blue. The length of the tongue helps them to eat leaves from tall trees. Okapi also cleans their eyes and ears with the help of their long tongue.
