Tolanton Market Lahore

At that time in Lahore, There was no good and standard market. There was also a physical fight between Agha Shoorish Kashmiri and Maulana Kausar Niazi in the Punjab store in Tolanton Market, both of them got into a fight and Dalda Ghee boxes hit each other. This store belonged to the late father of former Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Dr. Rafiq Ahmed and brothers Asif and Azam. Dr. Rafiq Ahmed's father used to walk in this market barefoot wearing a dhoti and a small kurta, he was 100 years old. The store which had the most variety was the Al-Fateh store owned by the late Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal.

They were very hardworking and God-fearing people, very active and more mobile than the youth. Tolanton Market was located on Mall Road from 1920 to 1990. Then it was decided to shift this market to Shadman. After Shadman came, the market was not the same as before and many people left their businesses. Now it is a very smelly dirty market, people stay away from it.

The Tollinton Market moved happily, while the expropriation mafia and corrupt officials sought to demolish the historic building to make a living by selling its rubble and building a new, ramshackle building. It was almost that this historical building would have been demolished, but as a result of the protest and pressure of the people, civil society, various circles, and old Lahoris, this historical building was saved. After being owned by a government department for some time, this historic building is now owned by the Mayo School of Arts (NCA).

They are using this historical building very well. Wazir Khan is equal to NCA. It is the same Wazir Khan who built the Wazir Khan Mosque. His full name was Hakeem Aleemuddin Ansari aka Wazir Khan and he was a resident of Chiniot. The Wazir Khan Mosque in Lahore is the most beautiful mosque in the country. Its architectural style is Indian and Iranian style.

There was once a shop of Edelji Wine House near Tollonton Market and we have seen bottles of various wines stored in this shop before the rule of General Zia-ul-Haq. Interestingly, there were only two wine shops in Lahore at that time, one was Adelji Wine House and the other was Raja Wine House. Raja Winehouse was on Temple Road. Whenever there were riots in Lahore, first of all, the protesters used to pelt stones on these two shops and broke them, stole liquor bottles, and set the shops on fire. Before the establishment of Pakistan, there were many liquor shops in Lahore, and beer was sold openly.

There was a huge Dhobi Ghat behind the Edelji Wine House because once there was an Anarkali cantonment and soldiers' uniforms were washed here. A commercial building was constructed next to the Tolenton Market, which also housed shops selling medicines, jewelry, sarees, and children's school uniforms. Barkat Ali sarees were very famous. At one time there was a big custom of wearing sarees in Lahore, principals, and teachers of most girls' schools and colleges used to wear sarees. The Bible Society in New Anarkali is a large antique shop that has been around for at least 150 years.

Lahore is the only city in the subcontinent that once had a beautiful blend of urban and rural areas. Just ten miles from the Thirteen Gates of Lahore there were many villages where there were mud houses, buffaloes, threshing fields, dirt roads, and many villages without electricity where lamps and lanterns were lit at night and food was cooked on firewood and dung trays. used to go A special write-up for Tariq Javed, who used to be the President of Tollanton Market Poultry
