Live from San Jose, California, Samsung on Wednesday unveiled its new Galaxy S24 line of smartphones, its first devices “of the future” powered by its Galaxy AI artificial intelligence.

Today, we are creating a new beginning. It is believed that Samsung Galaxy will embody this change, declared the president and head of the Mobile Experience division of Samsung Electronics, TM Roh, at the start of the session which lifted the veil on the Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones, S24+ and S24.

It’s like having your own interpreter on the call, noted Drew Blackard, vice president and chief product officer.

The translation is available in 13 languages, including French, and works regardless of the phone the person on the other end is using. Access to cellular data or a Wi-Fi network is not required.

The chat assistant functionality allows you to write a text message in a language and ask for it to be translated live into the language of your choice.

AI comes to the Notes app

Samsung also unveiled an update to its native Notes app with the addition of a note-taking assistant and a transcription assistant.

Its Galaxy AI technology manages to distinguish between different voices in an audio recording and quickly generates a transcription, translation, and summary.

Samsung is partnering with Google to offer a feature that allows you to circle an element in an image, video, or text to perform a search.

For example, a person who wants to know the brand of sweater an influencer is wearing in an Instagram photo simply has to press and hold the phone's home button, then circle, highlight, or tap the object to search for it online.

Some AI features unveiled by Samsung on Wednesday will be integrated into other models of the brand. However, the company did not specify which ones during its presentation, but the specialized site The Verge mentions the S24 phones as well as the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 folding screen devices.

Samsung lifted the veil on Wednesday on three smartphones from its new Galaxy S24 series.

The entry-level device, the S24, has a slightly larger screen than that of its predecessor, the S23, at 6.2 inches (15.7 cm). Same thing for the mid-range phone S24+, whose screen is 6.7 inches (17 cm) and which has an improved resolution of 1440p.

Just like previous models, the S24 and S24+ feature three cameras: a 50-megapixel camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra, with a titanium frame – a first for Samsung – has a 6.8-inch (17.3 cm) 1440p quality screen and five cameras, of which only the main one has improvements (5X zoom and 50 megapixels) compared to the 2023 model.

Fans of photo editing can use a Samsung editing tool that allows you to quickly move objects and people in an image. Capturing images in low light is also improved.

The Samsung event took place two days after the publication of a study by IDC which places Apple ahead of the South Korean giant for the first time in 12 years in terms of smartphone sales.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (from $1,800), S24+ (from $1,400), and S24 (from $1,100) phones are available for pre-order from Wednesday and on the online store from January 31.
