Bovine Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD)

How to do scientific management of lumpy skin disease, a terrible disease of animals:-

Dr. Rajkumar Berwal and Dr. Manish Kumar Sen

According to Dr Rajkumar Berwal and Dr Manish Kumar Sen, Officer-in-Charge of Animal Science Center Suratgarh, a disease called lumpy skin disease is spreading very fast among animals in our state, this disease has spread its feet in other states of India and our livestock owners.  It is very important for people to be aware of it. Generally, virus-borne diseases in animals arise due to weak immune systems like hoof mouth, and PPR.  L.S.D.  Veterinarians can get rid of it by getting timely treatment, prevention, prevention of lumpy skin disease etc.

 Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD):-

This disease is L.S.D.V.  The virus spreads in animals, which in common language is called animal husbandry nodular skin disease, this disease usually engulfs cows and buffaloes L.S.D.  It is spread from one animal to another by blood-sucking flies, mosquitoes, or chigger louse, this disease does not spread to humans but spreads very fast from one infected animal to another.

 Reason:- Virus (L.S.D.V)

            Family- Poxviridae
            Genus- Capripox virus

 Symptoms:-

 1. The formation of knots on the body of the animal, mainly around the neck, udder, genitals
 2. having a fever
 3. Watery nose and eyes
 4. Stop drinking animal food
 5. Decreased milk production in milch animals
 6. Abortion in guinea pigs
 7. Weak immune system of the animal

 Vector:-

It is spread through animal saliva and contaminated water and food, along with mosquitoes, flies and lice.

 Diagnosis:-

It is not difficult to diagnose based on specific symptoms.  It needs to be differentiated from cowpox, whose lesions are confined to the non-hairy parts of the udder and pelvis.  The disease can be easily detected by the laboratory.

 Prevention and Control:-

 1. First of all, take care of the cleanliness of the animals, in which flies,     mosquitoes, chiggers, louse etc. do not come to the animal shelter.
 2. Veterinarians should spray phenyl, and deltamethrin for flies, and mosquitoes, under supervision of a veterinarian.
 3. Keep sick animals isolated from other animals and get the medical treatment done by a doctor
 4. Do not allow another animal to come in contact with a sick animal's body such as eyes, nose, urine, dung, milk, infected water and fodder, otherwise they may get that disease.
 5. The good thing is that this disease does not spread to humans, but due to lack of cleanliness, man acts as a carrier in it.
 6. Adopt strict biosafety measures in animal farms.
 7. Avoid movement of animals from the area affected by sick animals.

 Vaccine:-

Before transmitting this disease to healthy animals, it is necessary for the livestock owners to get it vaccinated, which helps in controlling and preventing the spread of the disease.
 9. Animals get this disease due to weak immune systems. To strengthen the immune system of animals, 25 to 50 grams of amla, basil leaves, turmeric 10 grams, giloy should be given to animals daily.
 10. Apart from this, give deworming and mineral mixer to animals under the supervision of a veterinarian.
 11. If an animal gets this disease, then it should be treated immediately after contacting the nearest veterinarian.
 12. Veterinarians can apply 50 ml neem oil, camphor, and turmeric mixed with the wound on the animal's body.
 13. Apart from this, the wound of the animal should be washed with red medicine water in the morning and evening so that other infection does not spread in the animal.
